I was talking about the motion detector mentioned above, which would drive neighbors crazy.

Motion detectors sometimes (despite contrary advertising claims) like cats, foxes, raccoons, ... depending on the location by forest and meadow, this can quite often lead to constant lighting.

Cats do sometimes (quite often) like gardens (like our neighbor's cat likes ours) to poop.
At least I can give them some light for that.

Motion detectors can also be set to respond only to larger objects. I find effective façade lighting nice. However, it should fit the building. We have not implemented something like that. Fun fact: Since the advent of LEDs, electricity consumption has increased. They are energy-saving and stay on longer....

and indeed scientifically verifiable for various fields, is then called the rebound effect. Somehow we really are a strange species ops:

The soffit lighting is on the south side, then adjacent is the access road, the property almost opposite is currently vacant and I assume that the terrace there will also face south and the entrance on the north side, like the neighbor of the vacant property. Thus, the light would rather not be disturbing for the neighbors. In addition, the access road also (still) has no street lighting. There is also no time/light control for it.

Hope to shed some light on the matter (How fitting the phrase)
