I find the visual separation original. Yes, it is cheap.

Unfortunately, we did not have 7,000 EUR available and even if we did, judging by my neighbors and ourselves, we would have ended up choosing different bricks and the result would have been just as unsatisfactory.

As soon as the outdoor facilities have been completed, that will mostly be covered, I think.
The house stands on a 1.20 m deep strip foundation.

"a Passat only costs 7k more than a Golf"
It's a surcharge, not full costs.

btw. no idea what a Passat costs more, probably 10k. It's just an example for the relation.

That would be the absolute worst case. Is the neighborly relationship between the two semi-detached house friends already strained? Your house isn't even fully completed yet. Partial brick cladding like that has its advantages. At least you'll know exactly which side is yours and where to put the tall fence later.

Uhm, I mean a different relation.
Both buy a Golf from the same dealer.
One just takes white, the other super glossy skiperl white metallic for a 1,000 EUR surcharge. At most other dealers that costs 2,000 EUR surcharge.

I find that cheap. Of course it doesn't help the last cookie if they simply don't have the money. It's still cheap.

The entire comparison is flawed because the surcharges for optional equipment are made by the manufacturer, not the dealer. It is also questionable whether VW uses a full cost accounting for the Passat and takes the surcharge from Passat to Golf out of thin air or even places it below production costs. You make money with the top models, not with the Golf Trendline...

Also compare who contributes the bulk of profits in the VAG group. It is definitely not the core brand VW...

I guess this was a classic "We’re already there, the scaffolding is still up, we’ll just do it quickly and anyway we’ve earned enough with the neighbor" business, hence the 7,000 EUR... I can’t imagine the neighbor had his entire house clad for 7,000 EUR. That would be absurdly cheap. If I take medium-priced material, about 40 EUR, and 150m² of facade, the material alone costs almost 7,000 EUR...
