This week, due to holidays, we have a craftsman-free zone in our house. On the one hand, it’s quite nice not having strangers constantly walking through the house, but on the other hand, progress just isn’t happening.
First of all: we were finally able to catch our tomcat, who had resisted all previous attempts, and bring him inside the house. Unfortunately, there is still no sign of our runaway cat. I keep putting out food, and it does disappear, but I don’t know if it’s our cat eating his fill. We’re still hoping to find him. Anyway, now we have three cats with us again – but one bed is occupied:

Otherwise, our carpenter came by on Saturday before his vacation and at least put in the carcasses of our cabinets so we can start putting our clothes away (though we’re far from finished):

The kitchen also now has almost all its drawers (except the one under the sink on the island – for that, we have to wait for the sink to be installed, as I said):

This picture also makes clear why I absolutely need handles in the work area – where else should I hang the towels I urgently need when cooking and working, so that they’re always within reach?
The first baseboards have also arrived (but are not fixed yet):

Our robotic vacuum still loves to get tangled under the open parts – I’ll be happy when that no longer happens. But the carpenter is now off to Lake Garda for two weeks on vacation. He definitely deserves it and I wish it for him (But I waaaant vaaaaacaaaation toooo! Want to lie around lazily and do nothing *sob*)
There is one thing we now consider a total planning mistake: the lamps above the dining table:

Well, this is not yet the table that will ultimately be there (it’s also being made by the carpenter who is currently on vacation at Lake Garda, and other chairs are coming), but overall the globes hang too high – they glare when you’re sitting at the table. The things should hang about 20cm lower and I fear that’s no longer possible because the steel cables and the cord were cut accordingly. Bummer. But maybe we’re lucky and there’s still some material stored at the top so they can be hung lower. That would be nice.
And although the gold inside is quite pretty, it doesn’t fit our color scheme at all. I wanted silver inside from the start, but was overruled, and now that I see it together with the silver spots, the silver mercury lamp in the living room, and the matte gold Mitos above the island (the color is called matte gold, but looks more like rose) – it just doesn’t match.
If anyone wants two designer lamps with the possibility of a long suspension and wants these – I would sell them. We will definitely replace them. My husband would also like the Mitos we have above the island over the dining table. But that’s too expensive right now (one costs about €2,500 and we need at least 2, if not 3, of them, that’s not feasible at the moment).
I do like the globes as such, but with silver inside and maybe those I once saw, which I found super funny for above a dining table because the lamp is hidden behind a soup spoon and the light reflects into the globe:

(However, when I look online, these lamps only come with a max pendant length of 1.70m, which is not enough for us – no idea if you can get them with a longer suspension)
We’ll try to work something out with the lamp shop about what to do. I’m actually of the opinion that they should know at the shop at what height to hang lamps above a dining table, instead of the users only realizing later that the lamps hang too high. There must be standard measurements or recommendations! A dining table top also has a standard height of 74-78cm. I hired professionals and paid a lot of money so the lamps would be hung correctly.
We’ll see… And I always had misgivings about the gold in connection with our other lamps, but I was overruled (also by my husband and my brother – silver would be way too cold, they said. I don’t think so…)
Anyway, I don’t like it like this.
I’ll have to drag myself back to the lamp store and look for a solution with them.
