Uh, I also find the downpipes really disturbing in terms of appearance, I would have invested in alternatives ...

seat88, nice house. Downpipes look completely fine. Don't be discouraged. Downpipes must be outside, everything else is a potential source of errors for the future. An externally located clogged downpipe is immediately noticeable and relatively easy to dismantle and clean. Internally located downpipes are quite the opposite.

Imagine the downpipes with a climbing plant. It creates a pergola feeling and the look fits.

That is basically true. In my parents' house, the error has not occurred even once in 49 years. Nevertheless, we decided on external gutters and downpipes because we do not want any risk of standing water with leaks in the wooden house.

So, this was fashionable among some architects in the '68s, and the district is full of houses with internal gutters, and whenever there is a lot of surrounding trees, it leads to real clogging problems. Damp walls, genuine building damage, because the issue was ignored for too long or not really noticed. Especially so when the houses are rented out. K.

Had to scroll back first. I didn’t notice the downpipes. As Nordlys wrote, external ones have their advantages. Overgrown, as Hampshire wrote, and it looks stylish.

Cover the roof side and dormer (south?) with photovoltaic panels after all.
