Well, we actually always take off our shoes too (ours are even in the stairwell or in the shoe cabinet, none are left out because otherwise the cats would get to them) but I am sure I have been in every room more often with shoes on when we bought furniture and carried it in or if you forgot something, etc... and we also have carpets in some rooms...

No problem at all. Buy rectified/calibrated tiles and use a leveling system. Fits perfectly.

We never go into the house with street shoes on, even when carrying in furniture we always take them off, we've always done it that way. But we have definitely never been upstairs with street shoes, we always go up there only with socks. You don't have to make unnecessary cleaning work, it doesn't hurt to take off your shoes in front of the house.
