The size of the house suits us perfectly. Previously, we had a 50 sqm apartment and a 17 sqm shared flat room, so the house is an absolute luxury for us. At first, we thought more of 130 / 140 sqm, but the budget had other plans :D

Now it's a cozy 110 sqm of usable space. And honestly, we're even happier with that. Sealing as little area as possible and still having enough space for two of us (and hopefully for a long time with a pug - the three of us).

I just looked at Cumaru, tropical wood is out of the question, but it’s beautiful! We’re also building our terrace ourselves. Surprise ;). I need to learn more about Kebony and Organowood. But it will probably be larch, which we will then gray.

The wood looks really good, but tropical wood originating specifically from Brazil (given the current government there and their exploitation of the Amazon region) is something I really couldn't buy in good conscience...

Great wood! But you have to oil it at least once a year, otherwise you'll still have the grain, but with greyed wood.

You are certainly right on this (eco) point. But other wishes could not be realized with alternative, ecologically flawless material. I wanted (had to) install wood that is as smooth and splinter-free as possible for my grandchildren and me (to play and be barefoot). I want to have to repair as little as possible on the terrace during my lifetime. And I wanted a nice appearance. Only European locust could have fulfilled these wishes, but not available as 4 m boards in one piece (only finger-jointed). I fly on vacation at most every 4 years, drive an electric car, and live energy-efficiently  So I was still able to reconcile it with my conscience. Sometimes you have to be a little selfish ;) Regarding the oiling, the expert spoke explicitly of ONCE. I know Cumaru as "3-year-old" un-oiled. In rain, it is very "colorful," otherwise rather gray. That is still quite okay... P.S. I had never heard of Kebony before. Now it’s too late anyway, but it sounds and reads very interesting. I’m also curious about your terrace ...

We installed Cumaru 3 years ago. We still really like it and - even with a bit of a guilty eco-conscience - we made this decision very consciously! By the way, we didn't oil it. Every year at the beginning of spring it gets cleaned and that's it! By now it has beautifully weathered to a gray tone, we wouldn't have liked oiling it. That would be too dark...

Wood from Brazil ….. I just find it damn awful. And then consciously accepted and consciously chosen.
