We made the mistake of choosing very dark tiles in the shower...

It is always very nice when the sun shines obliquely on dark tiles and you can see wonderful formations of lime streaks and lint. That is why I like lighter tiles and wood

But it doesn't only depend on the shade. Solid colors are generally always more sensitive than tiles with patterns/color gradients or whatever the technical jargon calls it. Smooth is more sensitive than textured. Matte or polished/glossy. For example, I can say that we currently have anthracite slate-look porcelain stoneware. It is not as sensitive as some might imagine.

This is what our tile looks like, if you can recognize anything from the phone photo. I find it very durable. It is somewhat darker in real life. It also fits perfectly with the solid cherry parquet in the living and dining room.

But with sunlight, I also see fluff extremely well on parquet. And in the bathroom, we have dark anthracite tiles with some texture, and I find them very prone to stains (even without sun). There are even stains – wherever they come from (cleaning products??) – that just won't come off...
