: A great DIY project!

I also love doing things myself. I have many ideas, especially for outdoor spaces, and would love to work on implementing these ideas all year round. But there simply isn't enough time, and for some things, not enough money either. It's not always easy to find the right balance between work, family, and making progress outdoors. In between, you also want to enjoy the garden and not just keep working...

And the little one also wants to spend time with dad.... My wife sometimes has to hold me back and force me to take a break....

I find that a bit presumptuous, to be honest...

What makes someone prefer to have a professional do a job rather than doing it themselves doesn’t matter at all.
And if client X has everything done right from the start to have peace of mind and prefers to spend X-thousand € for various jobs, that is totally their right.
Client Y, on the other hand, feels fulfilled when they do a little bit of work themselves every day.

But I don’t go around condemning someone who wants/has to/takes whatever other path.

And if the reason for that is “merely” that he/she didn’t want to do it themselves, so what?

I’ve done quite a bit myself but focused on what I can do.
And I’m really glad I invested money in a company for the outdoor facilities and don’t have to live on a construction site for the next few years.
I experienced that with a friend who worked on the outdoor facilities for the last 4 years; he is fed up...

You yourself write that everyone decides for themselves, so it can’t be any of your concern if others supposedly make it easier for themselves...

Everything you do yourself is many times better in quality than what a craftsman produces. They simply have no desire or passion, they just slap everything together. When I do it myself, then it's 100%.

I wouldn’t generalize it that much. On the one hand, an estimated 70-80% of home builders are not capable of properly performing a craft. On the other hand, there are enough craftsmen who care about their work. Our tiler, for example, worked with such passion that I could never have achieved that. The carpenters for the wooden facade worked like joiners, the painters smoothed the surfaces as flat as mirrors... I would never have managed that, and I consider myself skilled in crafts...

It's a shame that you haven't had a good experience with craftsmen. Our experience is exactly the opposite. Neither your nor my experience can really be generalized. Your statement sounds disrespectful to the tradespeople in my ears. You have hardly acquired the skills across trades that craftsmen gain during apprenticeship, master school, and years of experience – or are you a craft god with infinite tool resources? You only reach 100% because you define your own performance that way. Who likes to work well and especially well if they don’t feel respected?
