So, I've been immersed in the moving madness for three weeks...

It was a bit chaotic and very, very exhausting. I had three weeks off and now (first day back at the office), I'm really ready for a vacation after we've worked nonstop for 10-14 hours every day for three weeks.
I already said: Thank God I get to go back to the office, there I can at least sit down for a few minutes!

But: we've been living in our own house for almost 1.5 weeks!

With a few bitter pills that moving brought along. Since unfortunately we couldn't move as planned (the living area in the apartment was supposed to stay as long as possible while everything was already prepared in the house), we still haven't been able to catch one of our cats. Once our living space was emptied, he became impossible to catch. He visits our new tenants almost daily and complains in front of the patio door ("this isn't how I'm used to it! Disgrace!"), but he won't let himself be caught. We are hoping for bad weather and eventually the realization that he'll come back to us. When we check on him, he only grumbles at us and runs off. No chance to catch him.

One cat unfortunately got lost about a week before the move. I still hope that he might just be locked somewhere and will show up again (we had that happen before with one of our cats), but then? Then he comes home and we're no longer there.

And finally, a third cat escaped from the house. Since nothing was finished yet, we still had craftsmen in the house every day and eventually we just had to move, even with cats. I then hung the following sign on all doors:

But when the blinds were adjusted last Thursday, apparently one door was left open for a longer time and since then this cat has disappeared and has not been seen again.

Out of originally 5 cats (well, 4 if you subtract the one that disappeared earlier), we now only have 2 cats in the new house.
We at least hope to eventually catch the stubborn move-resister (we're now only about 800m away from our old apartment and former neighbors and new tenants have been informed accordingly) and maybe also the cat that escaped—although he has always been very shy.
That's what you get when you raise problem cats. They're simply never as affectionate as those who have been used to humans from the start. We collected all of ours sick or got them from an animal welfare organization.

Only our sole cat coped well with the move. She complains but is very attached to us and that works quite well. She also never moved far in the old apartment—probably mainly because she only has three little legs left.
The other cat that moved with us is depressed. Not because of the move, but the escaped cat was his bosom buddy and he obviously misses him a lot.

So that was our cat moving drama.

Other than that, nothing is really finished yet and we've still had craftsmen in the house every day (and this will continue for some time).
That's really annoying me by now. Above all, before I terminated our apartment lease, I specifically asked our house builder if it would be okay to finish comfortably by the end of July.
But sure! was the answer.
I could just as well have terminated the lease at the end of August. In hindsight, that would have been more sensible and might have spared us the massive loss of cats *sob*. But when I have the assurance that we'll have a finished house by the end of July, you just terminate accordingly.

And now it’s like this: the tiler is sitting in the guest toilet because we complained about the silicone joints and he has to fix them. The electricians are struggling in the main bathroom—and at some point, I just simply have to use the toilet and in my own house with two WCs, I can't pee.
That might sound funny at first—but it’s not. Luckily, my mom lives next door.

Then, you can’t put anything where it was originally planned because nothing is finished. Not even the kitchen (which I ordered back in February with a completion date in MID-JULY, and had confirmed). So you first only move the essentials—and then from A to B and then to C—and by the time you put it in D, you don’t even remember where it currently is *grrrrr*.

Then I have to practically beg our electrician on my knees to give us power. For safety reasons, he rather cuts off the wires. Which means there’s still no light in the pantry and the newly bought freezer can’t be used at first—because without power there is no cooling function. I finally got him under threat of the death penalty on Thursday to provide power to the pantry. We still don’t have any light, but the freezer works *phew*
At first, we could only shower in the guest bathroom—but we had to do that well before dark because there’s still no light there (still none to this day).
We’ve also brushed our teeth with phone flashlight illumination (by now, at least the main bathroom has some light and we can shower there as well).

Electricity is really the sore point—we’re way behind there. Most of our switches still look like this:

Personally, I had imagined something else under industrial design...

Congratulations on moving in and stay brave!

However, confirm with me to add at least 1-2 months of safety on top of the completion date given by the general contractor, even at the risk of double burden of rent + installment. He says October, we are planning to move at the end of December.

In the residential area, actually no one has finished on time so far despite "binding" commitments.

Oh dear! That all sounds very turbulent! I can only too well understand the feeling "I don't want any craftsman in my home now." But I can tell you: someday it will happen! We felt the same way last year. Worked like fools for 3 weeks and when I sat back in the office, I could have cried from exhaustion. We have now been in our own house for 11 months (INSANE how fast time flies!! ops: ) and all the effort is forgotten! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the rest will be more relaxed now! Soon you will have made it!!

The kitchen should have been finished a long time ago, as I said – it still isn't. But at least it’s already functional.

The quooker (hot water tap) on the island is still not working, and the sink there will also take a bit longer. However, that is because the cutout wasn’t made as ordered – which we actually like better in retrospect: the countertop is 10cm thick, and for the sink, it would have had to be milled down to about 2-3cm so that an undermount sink could be properly installed. But they simply made a cutout in the stone. If an undermount sink were installed now, it would only start after 10cm – and so would be much too deep. Now we will simply have another slab of the same stone made and attach it underneath (it can be glued without joints and will then be watertight). This makes the sink only 10cm deep, but since the main sink is on the other side anyway and we will only use the sink in the island for quickly washing hands, draining pasta water and washing vegetables, that is completely sufficient. And it will look much better than an undermount sink.

Unfortunately, the kitchen is still not quite finished otherwise. Various drawers are still missing, the toe kick, the cutlery drawer organization – which results in the cutlery getting mixed up badly every time the drawer is opened...

At least we are now at the point where I can arrange almost all the drawers as I planned, the main sink is working (at first we had no water there, then water but no drain, so we placed a plastic tray in the sink), the oven, steam oven and warming drawer are working, as is the dishwasher, which now also has its panel, which not only looks nice but also prevents the door from closing again and again because the weight of the decorative panel was missing.

The stone for the island is finally here and the Bora cooktop works.
Getting the stone there was also quite a feat – but I will report on that separately, it deserves it!

Current status of the kitchen here in a few pictures:

The toe kicks are still completely missing:

Quite a few drawers are also missing:

But the oven, steam oven and warming drawer work:

To the left is the refrigerator (cool, cool, cool! It’s so nice and big!!!), on the right is the pantry.
The sink is still missing the soap dispenser and a raw water tap (we wanted this – no demineralized water for drinking). Those will be added to the right and left of the faucet.

The hole under the board is still there because we are waiting to see what the final sink will be like there. That will determine how deep the drawer there can be. Unfortunately, the quooker is still not connected. So far it’s just nice looking – without any function...

Here’s also a view of the dining area – with our old table, which looks almost scrawny here when fully extended.

The new table should of course have been finished a long time ago – but that would be out of character if it were!
The two lamps above the table are hanging completely crooked; the lighting technician is coming by again today to realign them. Nobody knows why they shifted like that.

I would do it that way now too! It saves stress and I would rather be double burdened for one or two months as well.
Definitely do it that way!

We were promised mid-June – but it became clear that this was not achievable. Meanwhile, we are 7 weeks beyond that and there is no end in sight...
