So, I've been immersed in the moving madness for three weeks...
It was a bit chaotic and very, very exhausting. I had three weeks off and now (first day back at the office), I'm really ready for a vacation after we've worked nonstop for 10-14 hours every day for three weeks.
I already said: Thank God I get to go back to the office, there I can at least sit down for a few minutes!
But: we've been living in our own house for almost 1.5 weeks!
With a few bitter pills that moving brought along. Since unfortunately we couldn't move as planned (the living area in the apartment was supposed to stay as long as possible while everything was already prepared in the house), we still haven't been able to catch one of our cats. Once our living space was emptied, he became impossible to catch. He visits our new tenants almost daily and complains in front of the patio door ("this isn't how I'm used to it! Disgrace!"), but he won't let himself be caught. We are hoping for bad weather and eventually the realization that he'll come back to us. When we check on him, he only grumbles at us and runs off. No chance to catch him.
One cat unfortunately got lost about a week before the move. I still hope that he might just be locked somewhere and will show up again (we had that happen before with one of our cats), but then? Then he comes home and we're no longer there.
And finally, a third cat escaped from the house. Since nothing was finished yet, we still had craftsmen in the house every day and eventually we just had to move, even with cats. I then hung the following sign on all doors:

But when the blinds were adjusted last Thursday, apparently one door was left open for a longer time and since then this cat has disappeared and has not been seen again.
Out of originally 5 cats (well, 4 if you subtract the one that disappeared earlier), we now only have 2 cats in the new house.
We at least hope to eventually catch the stubborn move-resister (we're now only about 800m away from our old apartment and former neighbors and new tenants have been informed accordingly) and maybe also the cat that escaped—although he has always been very shy.
That's what you get when you raise problem cats. They're simply never as affectionate as those who have been used to humans from the start. We collected all of ours sick or got them from an animal welfare organization.
Only our sole cat coped well with the move. She complains but is very attached to us and that works quite well. She also never moved far in the old apartment—probably mainly because she only has three little legs left.
The other cat that moved with us is depressed. Not because of the move, but the escaped cat was his bosom buddy and he obviously misses him a lot.
So that was our cat moving drama.
Other than that, nothing is really finished yet and we've still had craftsmen in the house every day (and this will continue for some time).
That's really annoying me by now. Above all, before I terminated our apartment lease, I specifically asked our house builder if it would be okay to finish comfortably by the end of July.
But sure! was the answer.
I could just as well have terminated the lease at the end of August. In hindsight, that would have been more sensible and might have spared us the massive loss of cats *sob*. But when I have the assurance that we'll have a finished house by the end of July, you just terminate accordingly.
And now it’s like this: the tiler is sitting in the guest toilet because we complained about the silicone joints and he has to fix them. The electricians are struggling in the main bathroom—and at some point, I just simply have to use the toilet and in my own house with two WCs, I can't pee.
That might sound funny at first—but it’s not. Luckily, my mom lives next door.
Then, you can’t put anything where it was originally planned because nothing is finished. Not even the kitchen (which I ordered back in February with a completion date in MID-JULY, and had confirmed). So you first only move the essentials—and then from A to B and then to C—and by the time you put it in D, you don’t even remember where it currently is *grrrrr*.
Then I have to practically beg our electrician on my knees to give us power. For safety reasons, he rather cuts off the wires. Which means there’s still no light in the pantry and the newly bought freezer can’t be used at first—because without power there is no cooling function. I finally got him under threat of the death penalty on Thursday to provide power to the pantry. We still don’t have any light, but the freezer works *phew*
At first, we could only shower in the guest bathroom—but we had to do that well before dark because there’s still no light there (still none to this day).
We’ve also brushed our teeth with phone flashlight illumination (by now, at least the main bathroom has some light and we can shower there as well).
Electricity is really the sore point—we’re way behind there. Most of our switches still look like this:

Personally, I had imagined something else under industrial design...
