Partly, at least that is the accusation my husband makes, "beauty" is also more important to me than practicality. However, I assume that the ideas of what is beautiful can vary enormously between a layperson like me and an architect. For example, I do not know whether architects find Neuschwanstein Castle "pretty." Regarding architects, I also have the impression that they want to be original and "immortalize" themselves with their work, artists after all, which then does not always have to align with the wishes or the wallet of the client. If I could afford it, I would still try to build with an architect. Regarding the architect of our prefab house manufacturer, I hope that he can tell me definitively what the dimensions of the windows should be and how many windows/doors we can aesthetically integrate into our new house. I have already found out for myself that I find tall, narrow windows/doors, and many of them, prettier than few, but wide windows/doors. But on this question, as soon as the time comes, I will ask the forum anyway.

One must also distinguish what is actually going to be built.
A single-family house with 200 sqm allows significantly more flexibility in terms of aesthetics, for example regarding the positioning of windows, than is the case with a 130 sqm single-family house. In the latter, the interior space must primarily function, while the exterior appearance is of secondary importance.
Reducing an architect to drawing a plan based on pragmatic specifications can certainly hurt their professional pride. Anyone can do that who is a draftsman; you don’t need to have studied for it.
Nevertheless, the client remains the one who pays the bill. That means it simply has to fit together.

That's true. I am also looking forward to the architect meeting; maybe my taste isn't so bad after all. We might also pay an additional fee if we can use the architect more often/longer for that, because according to the construction specifications, if I remember correctly, only one planning meeting is included.

You can also make calls and send a picture from the beach, with a cocktail in your hand.

We are really incredibly lucky. Since our artist is a family friend, it is not uncommon for us to still be talking on the phone late on Sunday evening because something needs to be clarified or we have a spontaneous question.
