My wife still has the annoying habit of putting/placing things on the stairs that don't belong there ... boxes ... laundry ... etc.

:D that's a woman thing. The stuff at the bottom of the stairs has to go upstairs, and the stuff upstairs has to go downstairs. My husband doesn't get it either, or he knows but ignores it, steps over it and grumbles. I even have to put Post-its on them saying "take me with you".
