Normally, shoes are taken off right behind the front door here. Sometimes there are exceptions for visitors - if we are going to mop afterwards anyway. Or if there is a garden party in the summer, not everyone who just wants to use the bathroom has to take off their shoes. But upstairs, always. The window cleaners wear shoe covers, the chimney sweep also took off his shoes... I think that is simply common nowadays compared to before. In my parents' generation, that was unthinkable - we quite naturally take slippers with us elsewhere.

So, to stick to the topic... I have dug up a photo
from the division introduction

Look what I found about it on the internet:
Advantage of rectified tiles
Rectified tiles are popular nowadays: With edge processing, it is possible to realize very narrow joints. At least 2mm should be planned due to the natural expansion of tiles. Rectified tiles create a very modern, flat surface appearance.

Yeah, it's fine.
Look at the floors in Italy. Grinding your teeth is frowned upon only here...

The term itself already sounds uninviting.

Everything comes back such a staircase we had in the terraced house from 1978. I still like it, but now we have a different one.
