You are confusing something... open is not the same as open! Completely open without a roof is exactly the opposite of good for a shell construction over a longer period in winter. Open, meaning no windows and front door but sealed with a roof, is exactly what is good! Unfortunately, in most cases you can't choose that if you start building in late autumn.

Then you just have to keep believing or simply google it. Basically, you can just make do with an oversized tarp.
