I think the cupboard is great, much neater, I would have solved it that way at our place too, but luckily we have a basement. There was also the option of using the risers as drawers, which looked nice too.

Drawers in steps I also find cool, but they work rather poorly in a twisted manner

Yesterday, the floor was installed in the basement. That's where our guest room is, and it also got underfloor heating and a spruce floor. We have a solid wood basement and decided to leave the walls in the rooms in industrial quality as the basement was originally built. That is also spruce.

Now the guest room looks more like a slightly oversized sauna:

The furniture will definitely NOT be made of wood, so there will be a contrast here

The basement hallway walls are white and the other three basement rooms (storage, workshop, and freezer) are pure functional rooms without underfloor heating and the floor is still in its original state, meaning the bare wooden floorboards with which the house was built.

I can still imagine an iron bed. But what is a wardrobe made of then?

I also thought of a sauna at first glance! Have you considered maybe creating accents with large plexiglass panels and lighting them from behind? Maybe even in black

How about staining parts "of the sauna" differently? So that it’s simply not all the same wood tone anymore. I think that’s where this sauna feeling comes from.
