Well said, but we barely planned the joint cut in advance. There are a few corners where, knowing it, one could have done something differently, but otherwise I would almost never subordinate other aspects of a room to the joint cut.

Nevertheless, we are pleased with the result.

This planning method seems to be successful at this point: it works – in contrast to many stubbornly precisely circular-drawn first-it-comes-differently-and-second-than-you-think plans, as one can repeatedly admire in this and other forums.

Well, the patchwork tiles up on the ceiling look anything but nice, at least to me....

How would you have done it differently? There are only 2 other options left (patchwork tiles on the bottom & top, or smaller pieces respectively the same size only on the bottom). It’s the same solution in my case, i.e. apparently that’s how it’s taught, unless the customer wants it differently.

I wouldn’t have a better alternative either. Pieces below would then have been spread throughout the entire room, now only over the shower and bathtub.

And if it is grouted in a matching color and you live with it for 3 weeks, you probably won’t even notice it anymore anyway.

I would have cut the lower and upper tile. Each one so that they are the same size. That way the fiddly bit is eliminated.
