There has been a lot of hustle and bustle on the construction site in the last few days, but you can't really see much progress. The perimeter insulation plus the associated dimpled membranes were installed. Today, the craftsmen laid the drainage around the base slab and began partial backfilling. Next Monday, the scaffolder will come, and the following Thursday the basement ceiling will finally be installed. Once the ceiling is in place, the insulation will be pulled up and the excavation will be completely backfilled... and then the ground floor will finally come.

The sealing effort is just insane, I've never seen anything like it before. Was it very expensive? There's quite a lot of material and labor involved, right?

I think I need to buy a 7.5-tonner, otherwise the carport looks too big :-p

Yes, it wasn't exactly cheap. Insulation, sealing, and drainage probably cost around 23k for the basement + the additional price for the waterproof concrete. If I have peace of mind for the next 50 years, it's worth it to me.

Take a small motorhome. For most private individuals, this is more practical to use and also does an excellent job of visually reducing the carport size. You could also offer it as a guest room (which we don't do - it's ours!).
