Usually, it is the roof overhang that leads to the downpipe solution – sometimes also the standard mindset of the planners and the disregard of the builders. Of course, you can build houses with integrated gutters and drain the water behind the facade – that also causes no noise problems. For flat roof buildings, that is a simple standard. My parents' house, built in 1970, has integrated gutters and downpipes despite a pitched roof. Noise- and problem-free.I have been wondering for some time why the downpipes do not disappear into the walls. That should be possible too. Does the insulation become too thin in that area? Is it not possible due to the construction?
