Yes, really stupid of us. We actually made the mistake of investing conservatively and building a house meant for living, not for showing off. And now we're facing a hefty 350 euros in extra costs because we no longer have the scaffolding on the house. And all the drilling in the walls because of the cables... Oh wait, we had empty conduits installed.

No, it’s not a mistake. Keeping reserves is completely OK. And if new joy comes from something new, that’s great for the feeling of life.

If it can be retrofitted, it is not a direct fault, but if you take cheap hardware store doors out of fear of saving money, then it is. A colleague of mine is extremely annoyed that he did not take solid carpenter doors; now he has the children's noise/music throughout the whole house.
