Inspired by the thread about the appearance of the staircase and fall protection, I took two snapshots:

The staircase is very simple, made of untreated hacked spruce wood, deliberately rough and done in the style of the ceiling beams. The railing was meant to be delicate. We had it made as a component to finish ourselves. The dog likes to nap in his basket under the first steps. Maybe the step lights will arrive today. The door handle also still has a delivery time – so we won’t be “finished” that quickly.

The window between the desk and the TV is, so to speak, above the shown staircase’s head in the same room. It is occasionally opened for ventilation and is secured with a lock and a flowerpot. The floor is made of simple solid spruce boards, which simultaneously form the ceiling over the cooking and dining area below.

I see that quite differently. Recirculation and odors don't go together. Exhaust air is much better here; if you often sear, recirculation is unusable. But it's fine for normal cooking. A ventilation system doesn't help you at all when cooking. It’s not designed for that! Regarding the kitchen island: very few people here have one, since an island is completely freestanding and not adjacent to a wall. Smarty mode off A second sink is only necessary if the kitchen layout or the room cannot provide a proper concept. So it's a last resort.

Is the bottom step cut out so the door can open??

This theory makes perfect sense to me. I totally agree with you. And at the same time, I can take the experience report from seriously. If she says that with convection and controlled indoor ventilation it doesn’t smell when she cooks, then I simply believe that.

For this reason, we call our kitchen part projecting into the room Spain. “Where is the board?” “Middle drawer on the left in Spain.” “Thanks.”

Or a luxury solution. According to your conclusion, even a mechanical chronograph on the wrist would be an emergency solution – the battery concept is more accurate and cheaper.

Yes, that's exactly how it is. The carpenter offered to rebuild the staircase. My wife and I laughed and suggested a cut-out within the door radius. You could say it's our own fault. Now we have a perfect door stopper that prevents the (still to come) door handle from hitting the clay plaster wall. We love such details and enjoy them, especially since there is no practical limitation – the staircase is completely easy to use.

Nice that you can bring so much relaxation to house building. For most, it would probably be a disaster, narrowly avoiding the collapse of the house.
