The plasterer plastered up to about 20 below the top edge of the concrete stairs and left the rest open.

We did this throughout the house where tiling was done (that is, in the bathrooms, utility room, and pantry).

Then the tiling was done, and at the end it was "skimmed," followed by a final coat of plaster on top.
Of course, each time the floor coverings/stairs were carefully masked off.

All done independently.

Thank you very much for the explanation. Wow, sounds elaborate, the plasterer probably charged extra again. But it really looks great.

I don't at all. The more realistic it looks like wood, the more uneasy I feel about letting water run over it. Of course, the mind knows it's ceramic and doesn't swell. But that doesn't help the feeling. Besides, in my opinion, not everything in the world has to be given a strawberry flavor, and likewise, wood-look can also gladly remain a privilege of wood.

Yes, I agree, I don't like it at all either. But well, as always, whoever likes it, some even put pink triangle tiles in the bathroom.

we have paving stones. And tiles in the guest bathroom.

Plaster residues were removed from the unfortunately broken cellar arch.
1601 is inscribed on it. It will be reassembled as far as possible.
