Lift-and-slide doors typically have a very "unbalanced" surface-to-frame ratio, high weights, and high torsional forces during movement. This is not comparable to a tilt window that remains tilted open permanently except when you go on vacation. You don’t have to share my view that aluminum is more robust. Conversely, I don’t want to join the faction of “the majority is never wrong.” Older people will remember: the fact that the mediocre product gains the larger market share is not happening for the first time (cf. Betamax / VHS or the like).The opening mechanisms of plastic and aluminum lift-and-slide doors are so different that the plastic variant is expected to have a shorter lifespan ?
