I like it more wipe-friendly than so strongly rustic.

I really like travertine, but we drink too much red wine for me to want to have it anywhere near my living spaces. :) My husband once managed to stain a marble slab in a hotel with mouthwash. Since then, I’m afraid of light natural stones.

You can just wipe it off – what you can't get rid of is authentic again! ;)

Mice here permanently. Or the cockroaches.

I can highly recommend dark (anthracite) floor tiles and light wall tiles (we have light grey). It just looks chic and timeless. Although for a narrow bathroom, I also find tiling horizontally a bit better and would only recommend 1.2m (except in the shower) in height. In my opinion, that looks more modern when only a partial tiling is done. But it's all a matter of taste.
