of course it isn’t. With us too. But with us fences in front gardens are also not common. It is not through traffic, nor every day some strangers who want to besiege you and your house.

We had that in the last house (from the 50s) and it would have been my first choice again. A beautiful thick solid oak door with colored glass and metal decorations. But you can “basically” only get those as a special custom order now. I’m keeping an eye on the topic, and as soon as we have money again, the current “modern” front door will be replaced. Elsewhere here in the forum I’ve extensively raved about our door in the 50s house. The subsequent owners love it too. :) Unpleasant for me is that this is no longer fashionable here. In American movies and series you still often see these mailboxes.

Then you can recess the gate a bit onto the property. Put the fence on the boundary and the gate 1/2 to 1 meter inside. Then you can place the mailbox in front of the gate. In case you do put up a fence. Or just a half-height fence and the mailbox directly behind it. If the mailbox has the slot in the front and the door to retrieve mail at the back. Then the postman can insert the mail from outside the property.

The scaffolding for the exterior plaster has been removed and I can provide photos. Hmm, it does look a bit like a "multi-family social housing building" after all, because due to the unexpected price increase we omitted details that are now missing both inside and outside. In hindsight, it would have been better to opt for a "non-individual" standard house at a bargain price, which is usually quite "pleasing and modern." The colors inside and outside have turned out much darker than I thought, and I chose very light tones because I assumed that colors appear darker on larger surfaces. The difference between the ceiling and wall color is personally too big for me; maybe that comes from painting twice on painter’s fleece and was not my intention. I wanted the difference to be noticeable but almost imperceptible. The good thing is that I was able to keep at least a minimum number of windows and French doors. In my opinion, the house now looks not nostalgic as desired, but simply old, old-fashioned. Well, our happiness does not depend on that and maybe I can mask it a little with the landscaping. ;-) I won’t give up that quickly; if necessary, my husband "has to" paint trims and put up shutters. :)
