I was very interested in the planning phase. But it was definitely about additional costs that my general contractor did not want to quantify yet. After he had mentioned extra prices for a different facade color (2-3 thousand euros) and roller shutters (800 each), I didn’t pursue it any further. Then I thought about whether we could just do it ourselves. Real recesses in the plaster would have meant sticking strips on before the exterior plasterer, which he would skip, and then plastering and painting the surfaces ourselves later. Or basically pilasters, that is, protruding strips – sticking Styrofoam strips and painting over them. My father-in-law said that all the dirt would stick there, etc. He, being the pragmatist he is, simply made "fake recesses" on his house. So he just painted a frame around the window opening in a different color. At another house, I saw that someone had painted the entire reveal, and we liked that visually very much. So we will probably do something between fake recesses and painting the reveal. But only much later.

You can also spray up with the garden hose sometimes – after weeks of dryness, I do that now and then. This year it wasn’t necessary ;) And no, not brown, our variety is just as red as in the photo. But next time I would have it done differently – the gardening company had advertised a "sprout mix." But it was all the same variety – so I hand-planted some other stuff in between. It annoys me a bit that I didn’t follow up on that, but assumed it was a "mix" of several varieties. Photo: don’t have anything current of the house

The parents' bathroom is now slowly getting the furniture ☺️ The washbasin and the cabinet underneath are still coming

Is it for sale? :D
We just spoke with the neighbor again for a longer time and made some arrangements (if I want to bathe, I send him a WhatsApp message, etc.), but I’m still not completely over the "escape reflex."
We currently have an initial upswing in our income situation, I earn significantly more, and my husband maybe in half a year to three quarters of a year as well. And we’re seriously considering investing again and taking another closer look at the dream of an old farmhouse in the countryside.
Not just the idyll I hope for (far away from music-loving neighbors), it would also bring other advantages. More space for hobbies, I dream of a converted attic or a hall for games and arcades. My husband dreams of a home gym. A shed for woodworking and creative activities. Peace and quiet with a large, overgrown garden...
It wouldn’t be impossible. However, we would not want to give up today’s "standards" anymore. I’m wondering if it would be possible to completely renovate an old, dilapidated farmstead into the dream house. For us, that definitely includes underfloor heating again, central ventilation, air conditioning, and an air-to-water heat pump, plus appropriate insulation. Is something like that realistic without winning the lottery? (we’re cautiously playing the lottery now :P )

*thumbsup*

Congratulations :)

Much is possible. But keep in mind that you couldn’t (or can’t) contribute much in terms of craftsmanship ... ;)

Your post shows me that with rising income the demands rise (oh ... now suddenly a bigger house, ...). Afterwards, due to the higher costs, you’re just as "poor" as before :)

Short and sweet: no. :) Renovating remaining farms to new-build standards is more expensive than new construction. Too much manual and tailor-made work.
