Terrace: Laying tiles on gravel

The required thickness only applies if you consider the unbonded installation. You can also lay 1cm thick tiles. However, then it must be bonded and not on [Splitt].

There is also a middle ground: half-bonded with a drain joint. Just google Sopro Solitär (F20), there is also an example video included. Here too, >2cm board thickness is recommended.

my terrace was laid last week:
- 2cm porcelain stoneware tiles 60cm x 60cm
- loosely on noble gravel
- with 3mm spacers
Question: how did you do the joints?

The landscaper said that no joints are needed:
- makes no noise
- if dirt comes later during grilling, you can simply clean it

What do you think about that?

I also have no joints, so currently if my girls keep going like this, I have everything full of sand :)

And how are the tiles then protected against slipping, etc.? We have been recommended a 2k tile mortar as grout.
