Is the space in the pantry sufficient? It is only about 2.8 sqm. I have looked up the space requirements for stairs and always find minimum dimensions of about 6 sqm.

What I also noticed about the pantry: it is not flush with the wall of the entrance area. So there would be a niche there (between the wall of the WC and the imagined extended wall of the entrance area). What am I supposed to do with it?

Oh dear – questions upon questions. The previous owners really didn’t seem to have considered a possible attic conversion.

I have once drawn in 2 variants with the VA software.

The vestibule (dashed blue line) might possibly have to be removed. In V2, which I like better, it could be retained, but the long wall would have to be shortened a bit to free up the corner for the staircase.

Oh wow - thank you so much for your effort!!!

Since we want to put in as little effort as possible, I also prefer option 2. Could it be that you planned the staircase from the long side of the hallway (so diagonally opposite the kitchen door)? On the drawing, it is shown differently?!? Wouldn't the corner of the windbreak then also have to be removed (just like in option 1)?

The "problem" is that the windbreak is separated by a double door, which opens on the left side when seen from the front door. Normally, one could then install a new door. However, a few years ago, we painted the oak-veneered doors and frames white. So if we change anything on the door, actually all doors would have to be replaced to avoid a patched look.

It will probably be more difficult than expected to integrate a staircase after all.

No, the staircase from the point at the stairs and the section A-A have a different viewing direction in V2 than in V1... namely from the kitchen wall towards the entrance. This is very clearly visible in the sectional view.

I planned the staircase with a tread width of 90 cm. Since furniture etc. sometimes need to be carried upstairs, it cannot be much narrower.

Can’t the vestibule just be repositioned and the door built in so that it fits?

I find it difficult to move the windbreak; there is still the wardrobe inside and a shoe cabinet. You could put it somewhere else, but then it gets tight with the front door – it’s not allowed to hit the doors of the windbreak. And there isn’t that much space there now anyway. I would have real problems getting the stroller in and out (just to name one example).

Would the hallway be too narrow if you put a straight staircase up from the bathroom to the kitchen? It is only 1.88 meters wide now. If you insert a staircase with a minimum width of 90 cm there, it’s really tight, isn’t it? Or does it not bother at all since it leads upstairs and does not take up the full width of the hallway along its entire length?

Or would it make sense to build the stairs along the straight line between the kitchen and bathroom and still remove the pantry to make the hallway more spacious? But it’s also a shame to "just" paint over a room.
