We had something similar after the sampling for the sanitary fixtures. Example: Hansgrohe Vernis Blend Showerpipe 240 in matte black. Offer from the general contractor for sanitary: 1000 euros. Declined with thanks - bought for 370 euros from the local dealer for self-installation.

And that went through everything, washbasin, basin, etc. Then we removed quite a few things and bought them ourselves.

Result: almost 9000 euros saved minus the upcoming own work (installation) - but I think you can also hire an external craftsman if you really don’t feel like doing it yourself.

Regarding the pipe cross-sections (if that is really a problem): just ask what an upgrade of the pipes costs and check online what the shower with self-installation costs.

Less the additional costs, than the additional price. For the latter, upgrading afterwards is always an unfortunate time.

Not with a lump sum offer or lump sum additional offer.
What does everyone actually think, why the old man always warns against "GC instead of tender"?

Of course, the builder is not stupid either if you no longer want the rain shower and then ask two days later what thicker pipes would cost ;)

The listing is for the builder what oil is for the car workshop or drinks are for the restaurant... that's how they make the profit... and within a certain scope, he should and may do that as well.

Yes, but if the pipes then just cost 800 bucks more, that's when it really gets funny :D

What exactly would be funny about that?

Yes, if you have the general contractor price it, that is so normal.

You need to google more and browse the forum again. Most extras are not taken through the general contractor but ordered directly from the craftsman. The best deals are made on site. Often for only half the price. Win-win for both – the general contractor doesn't need to know about it. Usually, GCs don’t even want to offer these items but very often refer to the direct route.
