Let's be honest, 11ant, like many others, advised you from the beginning not to build there. With the current knowledge and the great neighbors, building authority, and property, you probably wouldn't build there anymore, would you?

Of course, it was somewhat foreseeable, but you shouldn't blame him for that now. At least he tried everything to make it possible for the neighbor. However, the municipality probably should have designated rows with basements and without basements from the outset. Such a mix was sure to cause trouble.

Let's still keep our fingers crossed that it somehow goes smoothly. No idea how the whole thing looks legally in detail!?

Many other builders build in the area quite normally and without problems, coordinate with the neighbors, for example, dig deeper in advance so that the other neighbor can build a basement, etc. – that can work quite well.

Our way to the house was not easy either – but that is rarely the case when building.

We had already bought our plot of land back in June, until the neighbor moved up in November. By the way, the only plot that remained unsold for so long.

For us, the plot was without alternative: price okay, short distances to school and daycare and to my wife’s work. Convenient for me in terms of traffic. Aldi, Lidl, and EDEKA within walking distance – two large highways right outside the front door. You don’t have much choice in our region.

Probably a dummy question, but I don't understand what is bad about an additionally thick wall and insulation in a row of terraced houses. Isn't more wall and insulation a great thing due to soundproofing?

Sooner or later you will also have normal, nice neighbors, then everything will be forgotten. Only stories with entertainment value will remain, which probably no one will take at face value.

Thermal insulation is unnecessary since the other side is not exterior.
Sound is basically not reduced by ETICS. Just use 20 or 24 cm calcium silicate brick on the neighbor’s side and then it's quiet.
