That could cause some trouble.

The soil expert still hasn't provided a reliable foundation statement with his recommendation from yesterday. The structural engineer already has to ask follow-up questions again because important information simply wasn't given. It seems to be about the soil pressure for the strip foundations.

But the expert will issue an invoice for that, which I will definitely pay.

Strip footing? Why?

I can only read this from the email correspondence without knowing the complete thought processes of all parties involved.

However, the solution with the L-blocks and the embankment including a load-bearing base slab was rejected by the structural engineer. The L-blocks would not withstand the pressure.

Therefore, they are now considering strip footings - depending on whether in cohesive or non-cohesive soil. For this, the structural engineer now requires the corresponding preliminary work from the expert.

This came from the structural engineer to the expert:

[*]Foundation of all footings (except the boundary wall) in the cohesive top layer at

[*] approx. 101 m above sea level. The topsoil will be removed and the foundations will be established on the cohesive soil. Does an embedment depth need to be considered here?
[*] (The boundary wall footing would be founded frost-free about 95 cm deeper)

[*]Foundation of all footings (except the boundary wall) in the non-cohesive gravel at

[*] approx. 100 m above sea level. The topsoil will be removed… Can then the foundation trenches be backfilled with lean concrete up to approx. 101 m above sea level? Afterwards, the foundations would be built up to the bottom of the slab.
[*] The boundary wall would in this case (without lean concrete) also be founded at approx. 100 m above sea level and continuously reinforced for frost protection.

That does not sound very reassuring at all, what the expert is doing there. We also just had the [Bodengutachter] here so that he could make a statement about the possible foundation. Nothing. No statement possible. Why do you pay them?

Well then, good nerves going forward. If the 01.10. holds, you still have a chance that your house will be finished by Christmas. For me, it started in mid-October last year (and the basement too). The roof was put up on 20.12. or 21.12.

Thanks - that's the plan as well.
