As far as I know, you also have to comply with the energy standard in the basement, here with the Energy Saving Ordinance.

How is one supposed to judge that without a floor plan? Phew... how long have you been here? If the basement only consists of usable space, you won't need underfloor heating, but what do you want to do with 60-80sqm of usable basement? Basement without interior walls and without screed? I hope that question wasn't serious? Don't tell me you're going to ask if you can leave out the front door. Only Energy Saving Ordinance with basement is easy. KFW55 with basement (without EL) +5k€ just for the additional insulation.

Some stupid comment always comes up.

You have been following my topic here and surely read that we actually wanted to build without a basement but now have a plot that is 1.50m too deep and will have an additional cost of about 15-20k for the strip foundations.

So what's stupid about asking for a basement as cheap as possible? Unfortunately, I didn't budget a 50,000 € cushion to build myself a cozy living basement.

Of course I have! I also believe that a basement is necessary. Anything else would be a waste of money. However, before you cut essential things, you should reduce the size of the ground floor and upper floor. That’s what we did. You know yourself what the screed and interior walls are needed for, right? What should your basement ceiling along with the rest of the house support if there is a "vacuum" in the basement? You need the screed to level the raw floor. Doing it afterwards is not possible because of the 2-3 months drying time. I told you, the underfloor heating can be left out.

What is there to reduce? I live on the EG and OG and the basement is just storage space. I somehow find that to be the wrong approach.

Of course, I did not mean the load-bearing interior walls here – in our small house these are only the exterior walls and the stairwell walls. The rest is non-load-bearing.

I am still not 100% convinced about the basement – whether 15k or 50k makes a significant difference to me – even if it might hurt to bury 15k. It would hurt more to reduce high-quality living space or to cut out the controlled residential ventilation than to not build a basement.

Of course, the load-bearing walls within the building structure can be reduced to a minimum. But only a structural engineer can tell you that. An alternative would be beams, but they are certainly not cheaper. A partial basement certainly does not bring huge savings either.
