That would be crazy. You just need to remove the topsoil (which has to go anyway) and you’re at basement level. The basement can now only cost half as much. I would get some quotes, even without my general contractor.

I had already obtained quotes for the basement before signing the contract - besides, you always have to consider the follow-up costs in the basement like screed, floor coverings, water/sewage, electricity, etc. We will calculate it once the exact heights are determined. The pure basement without excavation is 44k with our general contractor - estimated costs for foundation and materials around 20k.

What I do wonder here, however, is why the municipality is not obliged to inform someone about the significantly higher street before the sale? There was never any mention that such differences exist. I have now learned from the site manager that there is probably a height difference of 1.50m on our plot. Can't the municipality be held responsible for that?
