Don't you have children?

Um, children regularly fall out of windows. They don’t jump, they fall.

And mine love to climb onto windowsills and fool around. The chances of that happening are definitely higher with us than fire. Just today, I had to take the kids away from the window twice. Of course, the key must always be within reach, and I can definitely understand the argument about fire. Everyone has to decide that for themselves. But it has little to do with parenting; children just constantly fool around.

We always lock the upper floor consistently. Keys are always stored separately. Our children love the wide old building windowsill and are constantly sitting there.
It's worth the effort to me. Small children's heads are heavy, children like to tip forward.
Personally, I don't know of a single case. If we didn't have them and something did happen, I couldn't live with the accusation against myself or my wife.
I accept a bit of effort and the 10€ per handle.

I have. But I also work for the criminal investigation department, back then in Hamburg, there were quite a few "such assignments" for me. And I even have photos of myself standing on the windowsill as a child.

Subject: K2, 11 months old. Climbed over the bed onto the windowsill to watch the tractor in the field opposite.

I confess to being caught in a knowledge gap: whether one is probably supposed to exclude a second escape route when locking (?)
