I'm totally missing that here. I mean, this is an architect's draft; for his money, he could distinguish himself a bit from the already existing mass-produced products.
But that's not correct. We planned it this way with the general contractor at our request, and the architect only made the plans now.
The design is totally loveless. It's not like it hasn't been criticized.
It's not loveless, just pragmatic. And the "love" comes later in the form of furnishing, decoration, and the people living in it. After all, you make your home and don't plan it on the drawing board. It's a feeling, not just a sheet of paper.
I lived in exactly this standard design for 7 years. So besides the overview that we girls have acquired over the years here, it also has something to do with personal experience. And back then, I had a basement plus a larger floor plan. My in-laws also live in this design – also without a basement. They constantly complain that there is no basement and that the entrance is so terribly narrow. In any case, I’m glad to be out of there.
That it hits you so hard when you express your opinion, I find rather concerning. Being immediately uninvited so that you only get honeyed words now doesn’t make it any better.
... But it’s not something to lose your life over, and our opinion doesn't have to spoil your fun. I actually see a much bigger earth-related problem that first needs to be solved. So all I can do is wish you good nerves!
I needed productive input and not someone who always only talks negatively about everything. And a complete redesign that fits your personal taste is also not helpful. One hopes or wishes for additions to the original planning, not for everything to be thrown overboard.
My parents-in-law also live in such a layout in a mid-terrace house and manage very well with it. The requirements are just thrown around casually. And I’d rather have a narrow hallway and therefore a slightly wider kitchen – a hallway isn’t a real living space but a passage to get to the front door or restroom. You don’t need 1.50m width for that.
