35k€ is not even 180€ more, right? But you know your limits. Then it unfortunately has to be that way.

You currently only see the additional costs, not the space and added value you also gain in the living area. Washing machine/dryer/freezer down, children’s toys that are currently out of use down, shoes, backpacks, tents, etc. Kitchen appliances that you don’t need right now, tools/workbench... The living area is massively relieved as a result, you only have the things in your field of view that you really want to have there. You can build yourself a man cave, projector, music, etc., just a retreat, that alone would be worth 35k to me. Yes, I know, the decision is basically already made, but I can’t help but beg you to really reconsider it. Small private equity injection for this purpose is also completely excluded? Interest-free loan or something? P.S. I love my basement

You apparently love your basement more than your wife.

I fully agree with you on everything. I also always wanted to have a man cave – but we quickly shelved that from the start for financial reasons.

We also do not want to go into debt privately because of a basement – we would have to pay it back anyway. We financed the house completely from our own saved money – without any inheritance or wealthy parents. Therefore, we are already satisfied that we can afford it so that going out to eat, going on vacation, or going to the movies with the kids is still easily possible. And simply taking on more debt is not a solution for us, nor were we raised that way: you can’t spend what you don’t have.

Therefore, unfortunately, we will have to decide against it.

Exactly: effectively "only" – yes, that sounds so easy to say – 40k or put another way: of 50k, 10k pay off simply by not having to do the (when considered on its own with zero value increase) filling in this part. In this "calculation" I of course assume that the mentioned 15k for the filling also include those areas that still occur despite the basement (parking spaces and slope).

Man cave is retro, guys. The new Magnum is no longer played by Tom Selleck, times change.

No, they are not. However, these areas do not have to be filled with expensive gravel but with excavated material from the construction site of other builders or with cheap sand.

By the way, filling these areas would also not be included in the 50k basement.

I do see it like Zaba, but I also think it's good when someone sets clear boundaries. So, do you get along with the

I strongly suspect that in the end it will still be the ordered gravel, which is simply available on time and predictable. Who likes to build with topsoil or wait until some neighbor happens to be digging their pit? That would really be a stroke of luck. The waiting and effort to collect the semi-optimal excavation material from the surroundings is ultimately more expensive than chipping in the €15.90 for the simultaneous processing of the entire area.
