This is going to be exciting! That was with a basement, right?

Probably with a basement. However, since we have a depth of 2.50m including the floor slab, it would be wise to simply build a not-so-high basement. That way, he saves himself the bracing, which according to our general contractor is now not quite as elaborate with the strip foundations as it would have been if we had backfilled with a retaining wall.

What a discussion regarding the size of the property and against terraced houses. Many forget with large properties and houses that these need to be maintained, cleaned, and looked after, both now and in old age when you have problems with your back, knees, and hands.

If you consider that the building mid-thirties previously lived in 2-3 room apartments with balconies and suddenly have to manage 700-900sqm with 160-200sqm of living space, then I know who sits on their terrace enjoying themselves after an hour of gardening and who still has to work hard for another 3 hours.

Especially if you have never done something like this before or only know it by hearsay or from your parents.

So, both have advantages and disadvantages, many forget that, but bigger, faster, better just means work.

Basically, you are right. Technology ([lawn mowing robot, automatic watering, vacuum robot...]) can simplify a lot. When you get older, you can always have a cleaner come occasionally or a gardener 1-2 times a year. In the worst case, you just sell the [house] when you get older and move to an apartment with an elevator and concierge service.

Certainly, carrying out the basic tasks with technology. But gardening still involves kneeling, bending, and standing.

Selling is easy to say now and logically the right decision, nevertheless, the elderly often do not do it because they are attached to the house even though they can no longer maintain it.

P.S. A cleaning lady is not enough for you

I already think that one will be enough. Our house is already designed to be quite practical for cleaning.
