The crane has been gone since early this morning. Fortunately, the guys were moving quite quickly, so the foundations could still be poured beforehand. That was very important, otherwise the heavy formwork panels would have had to be assembled and disassembled with the excavator. So now only the floor slab is missing, and then the masonry will begin.

In the picture, you can clearly see the height difference.

Oh man, there really wouldn't have been much missing to make it a simple basement...

However, this is only an optical illusion and I hope to partially ease your pain with this.

The foundation has absolutely nothing to do with a basement. For example, the foundation area that was excavated and lies in the ground is only made of unreinforced lean concrete (cheap). Furthermore, the excavation (clay) can be poured between the foundations. With a basement, it would have had to be disposed of.

We are glad about this: saved 35k and later I don’t have to constantly run down to the basement to fetch water.
