Personally, I would prefer a nice, well-laid-out condo over a townhouse. Both with comparable location. But that’s just me. I actually prefer my 140 sqm house with 2 full floors, a basement, 3 garages, and a 1000 sqm plot. At least until the kids move out. Then we’ll see. For that, I drive 12 km to the nearest S-Bahn. A colleague absolutely didn’t want a big yard. No desire for the maintenance. It just has to fit personally, I think. Take a look at . He also built new recently. New needs.

I do not find the discussion unnecessary at all. It is good that very different needs can be met.

I myself grew up in the small town in a large semi-detached house and at my grandparents' farm with lots of space to run around – as a teenager then with accordingly large area to mow the lawn.

What has stayed with me from my youth and childhood, however, is not the big house or the spacious garden, but my friends and the nonsense we got up to.

For us, our property is absolutely optimal: we stay 200m from our current rental apartment, including a daycare within walking distance and a social environment. Lidl, Aldi, and Edeka also just around the corner. My wife is at work in two minutes by bike and as a field service worker I have two major highways right in front of the house.

Anyone who wants 1000sqm and a single-family house, then please – we wanted to live centrally but did not want to have to pay 750k for such a house.

If the trend continues like this, I think that in some areas there will only be apartment buildings. Because with [REH] and [Reihenmittelhaus], which are heading towards 1 million, the number of buyers will become scarce.

Exactly. Because first of all, the most important thing is that everyone becomes happy with their possibilities - let others behind the seven mountains with the seven dwarfs have more or less something nice, or have turquoise where we have purple or vice versa. And secondly, this thread can also tolerate three pages of deviation from the topic.

The multi-family house is by no means conceptually exhausted – there is more attractiveness possible than what was understood under this topic decades ago. Especially in communal living – so not a shared flat, but a multi-family house with conceptual building blocks that enable fit older people living forms such as "couples after their children have moved out" (including day-care uncles and similar mutual support within the microcosms of house/street) – there is still a lot of potential. The multi-family house as such does not deserve to be generally seen as a "holding facility for not-yet home builders" – there is more to it. And the two-family house also leads a more shadowy existence than it "deserves."
