That is probably a religious question, but the thing with the push button is already understandable for very small children and then it no longer protects. They push a chair to the window and open it, you can’t even look that fast. That’s why we have keys, because we are not always upstairs when the children are in their rooms.

You must also use the keys, i.e. actually always lock the windows and then keep the keys at least an arm's length away from the window. But before that, you should have invested in proper fittings and screw-on security locks. Only then in additional gimmicks such as window handles with locks. This is also the official advice of the police.

As a child, I never felt the need to open the window and climb out. Can't that be taught? For me, the risk would be too high that in an emergency (fire) the window cannot be opened because the key cannot be found or the child does not know where it is.

For example, we only have locks on the upper floor: in the children's rooms and on the floor-to-ceiling windows in the stairwell.
All other windows have push buttons. No idea why, but I have by now become quite accustomed to the clicking sound when they snap into place.

Older children can’t open locks either, push buttons are a hurdle for smaller ones.

Locking everything on the ground floor would be unrealistic for us, we initially also considered making them lockable.

Has anyone ever heard of a case where a child accidentally fell out of the window? I haven't. Children aren't stupid! I would be more afraid of not getting out in case of fire.

Who seriously locks those things and takes the key?! Haven't heard of children jumping out of windows either. But nowadays, imagination knows no bounds when it comes to possible dangers for children.
