I definitely wouldn’t change it. In my opinion, the whole "dirty area" thing is totally exaggerated. Even small children can be taught how and where to clean their shoes without bringing excessive dirt into the house. What would bother me more with the swapped version is the noise level. With a staircase entrance/exit in the living room, you always have noise in the living area, especially with children. That would bother me much more in the living area than in the hallway. But the "dealbreaker" argument for me is the lack of privacy with an entrance/exit in the living area. Just imagine sitting on the sofa in the evening and having to say hello and goodbye to your child’s friend. Your children will be just as happy about that as you will be ;->.

But the staircase is still in the hallway on the ground floor after the rotation and not in the living room. In addition, the rotation would relieve the entrance situation, which is currently clearly very cramped.

Ground floor view:

Hello,
thank you very much for your answers. 50% is already enough for us to feel confirmed - the staircase is rotated )
When you come in from outside in winter, the shoes are wet, no matter how much you wipe them off outside. And we (the four of us, even more with visitors) would spread all that out in the hallway - the cloakroom area would be further back with the old version. And the dirt-trapping mat doesn’t dry after 3 minutes either. And then the children run around in socks... no, thank you. And you can’t avoid the dirt-trapping mat either if the staircase starts right next to the door (someone gave this as a tip here)...

And what do we learn from that? Not everything has to be practical and good just because "many have it that way."

And what else? If you don’t have a helpful architect, think for yourself and ask in the house-building forum ;o)

Best regards
sunshine

I am afraid that will not change. But for upstairs and the children's socks, it is probably a gain in terms of cleanliness.

Of course that changes, you can take off your shoes right at the front because there is space for shoes and jackets next to the front door under the stairs, this space would have been further back in the old version.

I thought the 80cm niche next to the entrance was the wardrobe.

I’m not the one who gave the tip, but we also bypass our dirt trap mat even though the stairs start right next to the door. Not intentionally, but because when you go down the stairs, you automatically "turn the corner" from the last step and don’t first go straight ahead and then make a 90° turn.

Then everything is great. You have to feel comfortable, and if you do, it’s the right decision.
