What do you expect from XPS instead of EPS on the facade?

: for pragmatic reasons, we decided against the ventilated facade - mainly because of the costs, and secondly, the overall wall structure would have become significantly too thick in relation to our small building volume.

However, I thought that a ventilated curtain facade basically doesn’t really affect insulation as such, at least not in terms of increasing the insulation value of the construction, but rather serves to support moisture transport as well as cooling during sun exposure.

: above all, I am considering using XPS boards with HFO-1234ze as the blowing agent to achieve better insulation performance at the same thickness. So far, I haven’t found a comparable variant from any manufacturer for EPS. Also, I am hoping that it is more moisture-resistant and avoids such a drastic material change in the insulation layer – since the basement is logically partially buried but also has a terrace on the “basement roof,” it would be necessary within less than 2 meters to transition from XPS to EPS and then to PIR, which seems a bit "odd" to me.

But I didn’t want to hijack the thread from rick – I’ll probably open a separate one on this occasion.

Insulation is not only against cold, as you already mentioned. Especially against heat, the ventilation brings a lot. But it also helps a bit against cold. For us, insulation was not an argument; it was about the aesthetics. If I could have achieved the aesthetics more cheaply, we would have done it.

Hello rick2018, which outdoor Wi-Fi access point have you planned? In the house, I have the Ubiquiti UniFi NanoHD and am very satisfied. However, these are only approved for indoor use. The Access Point Pro models are no longer quite up to date. I am considering taking the AC Mesh Pro. What did you decide on? Regards, Daniel

I also have the AC Mesh for the garden. I'm curious to see how it performs again. (Just connected yesterday after the network cable was laid in the irrigation trench)

You can report back soon, I still have to pull the cable. One more question, Ubiquiti recommends installing a surge/lightning protector at both ends of the outdoor cable. Did you implement it that way?
