Well, I think your project is great. Size, shape, color, etc. Everything can be polarizing. But you’re building for yourselves. There’s no arguing about taste. I like it and, if I had the means, I would do something similar.
So enjoy the whole process and thanks for letting us be part of it!

Well, that's a bit of a fib... if material things aren't that important, I wouldn't build a house like that with the corresponding use of resources. Then I would (at least I) live modestly and use the money for something useful (there are plenty of possibilities). Material things are certainly quite important to me and I stand by that.

that’s not a lie. We are building the house so that it meets our needs and hopefully future ones as well. How many resources are required for this has nothing to do with the urge for material things. I’m not saying we live frugally. Still, for example, we keep our cars for a long time and purchase them... I don’t need the newest technology, etc. We allow ourselves things in which we see a benefit. Time spent together is much more important than material things. It is much more important to me to spend time with loved ones than to be alone in a nice car. Better expressed?

That’s easy to say, of course, when you are in that position. Personally, food is not important to me either and my motivation to lose weight is huge, but only when I have just really stuffed myself. I hope you know what I mean.

Material things are only fun if the foundation in life is solid otherwise and there is no lack of social contacts or other problems.

I really enjoy consuming and have fun doing it. With the house, however, I had to put on the brakes hard, because it quickly gets financially out of control.

Your project is incredible, even in our wealthy neighborhood there is not remotely a house that would be comparable. And here live executives of one of the largest Dax companies in Germany, but their new builds are not even worth mentioning in comparison! ...:O

I thus like to follow the thread and can’t stop being amazed.

I know what you mean. That’s why I wrote “as soon as the essentials are covered.” But I have spent every minute of the last 3 years with my father. We were still out and about a lot and spent time with family and friends. Last week I buried him. That shifts the priorities enormously. The pursuit of money or material things moves into the background. Our financial situation has allowed us to still travel.

There are probably some big houses around Steffen’s area too. I also know a few around here. Mostly you don’t see much of them (walls/hedges). Many older properties around here already have over 200m2. There are old villas and also a few new ones. I don’t share these building projects to get approval but because I have also benefited from the forum.

Rick2018 my condolences, today on my 40th birthday, I once again learned what is important. For the first time in years, I had tears in my eyes just because of a text on a card. At that moment, I couldn't have cared less who wants what or anything else. I was happy.
