That makes more sense in the server cabinet; you handle the installation cables once and lay them on the patch panel. Afterwards, you connect the switch ports to the patch panel ports using short patch cables. You can then work with colors (e.g., all APs get a white patch cable, all cameras a black one... etc.)

In fact, the color selection for patch cables is not particularly large either; for Rick, one cable manufacturer won’t be enough if he wants to work with colors.

well, actually yes. There are enough colors available, also from or especially from brand manufacturers. Unless you actually need more than 6-8. But that will rather be rare. Telephony, LAN, possibly DMZ for the private area, cameras (POE?), router (WAN), NAS, server ...

Then gladly mix manufacturers because indeed (as mentioned) green is not equal to green.

When everything is set up, the fine-tuning comes next. It may be that I will still exchange a few cables then. I am not completely happy with the (color) selection yet. But for now, I will use what patch cables are available.
