I am somewhat biased and enjoy the technology and craftsmanship. Some watches are also keepsakes.
But I am not a collector. The number is also limited. I have sold a few to which I had no connection and wore little.
No one "needs" a wristwatch anymore. If someone wears one, it just has to please the wearer. Regardless of cheap; expensive, simple, elaborate...
I just don’t like the posers. Mostly they are Rolex wearers...
Tell me about your computer I like to look around. Water-cooled? Climate cabinet? Nitrogen?
With a hobby, you should never add up the costs. The main thing is that it’s fun.
Sure, gladly, but I don’t have any pictures at hand.
You have to know that I am a hardware nerd. The trigger was that I learned sometime around 2000 that you can overclock GPUs/CPUs.
Since then, I have followed the approach: upgrade smartly, invest smartly, and when it’s no longer enough, upgrade or replace.
In 2017, I replaced my old computer. It now takes on the server task with Windows Server, Active Directory, etc., media server, VM host.
The gaming and work machine is now of course no longer worth €3,500.
Back then, it was very expensive.
For years, Intel was the standard, also in my old computer.
Secretly, I always waited for AMD to come back (memories of my good old Opteron 170 at this point).
That happened in 2017.
Since I wanted to repurpose the old one as a server (testing ground), I replaced everything.
The computer consists of a:
Case: Enthoo Primo Prime (others want it small, I want to be able to hide cables and have space)
All cables were replaced by sleeved cables.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 1800x
GPU: Palit Nvidia GTX 1080
RAM: 32GB Corsair 3000mhz cl15
MoBo: ASUS Crosshair VI Hero
CPU cooler: Noctua NHD15
Drives: 1x NVME SSD 250GB, 2x SATA 960 GB
Power supply: BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 11
Case/CPU fans: Noiseblocker NB-eLoop B14. (Depending on use, with more or fewer revolutions)
Other accessories, etc. etc.
Water cooling, in my opinion, is nonsense. Today's components can no longer be overclocked like 10 years ago. Noise is not an argument for me either; a high-quality air cooler is also noiseless and, above all, more flexible.
Sure, from today’s perspective, it’s no longer high end. And, admittedly, the urge to tinker is great.
But anyone with some knowledge knows the evolution in recent years is manageable.
I see zero need (except the nasty urge to tinker) to change anything.
Soon it will be really exciting again. AMD is strongly back on track. We’ll see.
My next project would be a VMware certified server.
My DC as bare metal and the rest as VMs in ESXi or HyperV.
Fortunately, I have legal licenses for Windows Server 2016 Essentials, Standard, and Datacenter.
