Hanse987, correct. We always install the Cisco SG300 or SG500 series, 24 or 48 port. Cisco offers numerous models with PoE. Even with the "largest" in the SG series, the MPP, it is not always sufficient. If half of the ports are already drawing full power, the switch struggles (see PoE specifications af/at and their classes).

Even though it is now 2017, I also have a question. In addition to LAN, a WLAN is of course also "mandatory". What kind of access point do you use? I would like an "elegant" solution, otherwise only the Fritz-Box remains, which is hidden somewhere.

I am (still) not familiar with the topic, but Access Point is, from what I have recently heard, already the right approach compared to a repeater (which was only recently retrofitted in the parental home), as repeaters apparently halve the bandwidth in WLAN. How the two variants differ otherwise and whether that is really true I (still) do not know. In the household, however, a normal device for 30 EUR per floor is certainly sufficient.

In our house, the router will be connected to the switch in the basement; on the ground floor and the upper floor, we have power and LAN prepared in the hallway to be able to install an access point there each.

We will install an access point on the ceiling in both the ground floor and the upper floor. At the moment, I have my eye on the ones from Ubiquiti, from which I have read a lot of good things.

In my opinion, these are the best, especially the pro series. They also look quite good, especially when powered via POE.

Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO or possibly UAP-AC-LR. Absolutely recommended. Anyone who needs detailed information can feel free to contact me.
