I think you have to weigh up to what extent you build a house for all eventualities.
In our village, people are seriously considering building apartments for seniors next to the nursing home for those for whom the house with a garden becomes too much. Depending on the need, services such as meals, care, and leisure activities can be added. They are even considering planning the whole thing as a multi-generational house to use the "old" as temporary grandparents with all the advantages and disadvantages. The goal is to stay in the village from the cradle to the grave with good quality of life.
At some point, house and garden simply become too much. Wide doors, no thresholds, turning circles, stairlifts, sockets placed high can be taken into account relatively well. The arrangement of sanitary objects as well. This way, you can continue living as a family even if someone becomes ill.
