So the day before yesterday I would have said 3.32m x 4.07m
So if you change the stairs, you arrive earlier in the hallway on the upper floor and can get to the bathroom earlier. This gives me the following idea.
Practical or does it look bad? Imagine of course a fancy shelf or cabinet for the washing machine + dryer stacked on top.

How wide is an open passage without a lintel from the hallway to the living area usually? Do you find that practical? If one does want a door, can the passage be easily narrowed with drywall and a door installed?

That is a load-bearing wall, so I would not omit the door lintel, but only the door frame (door jamb). I find the size as drawn with the door already appropriate.
