If you already know approximately how wide your couch should be, I would also adjust the windows accordingly. We did it that way too. I think it looks strange if the last part of the sofa is in front of the window. Whether it is TOO dark is difficult to say now. Of course, light also comes from the west side; to what extent it still reaches the seating area is hard to say.
