Do you think 80cm would fit as well?

For what? Aesthetic?

Appearance and rain protection, for example to fold down as rain protection. I don't know what is common.

80 cm seems very little to me. We have a U-shaped canopy with a large span and 1.2m depth. I would have said it should be at least 1m. But of course, it also has to harmonize with the overall proportions. It probably also depends on the orientation and from where the wind usually comes. But 80 cm doesn't seem like proper protection to me.

We have a 1 m canopy at a height of 3 m and the entrance recessed by 1.2 m. Without recessing, it would be tight in heavy rain.

Our porch roof faces northeast, and it hardly ever rains from that direction, so 90cm works for us; I wouldn’t go any less.

Best regards,
Sabine
