I suspect that you are even younger and have small children. I can't imagine living in the same house until you kick the bucket, 40-60 years, nowadays. That’s how the older generation did it; there weren’t the housing options like there are today back then, people worked for the same company their whole life and lived in the same village.
The trend is more like what hampshire did, downsizing as you get older and not having to live on the same street your whole life. I imagine that to be very boring. Maintaining a large outdoor area is also less fun when you can no longer bend down. That means, building for old age is no longer up to date.
