too small. why [OG]? something like that is done on the [EG] and thanks to the garden there is space and no stress. [OG] quickly becomes no man's land.

Friends of ours have it similarly, hanghaus - living rooms on the ground floor and sleeping rooms in the basement. Next to the kitchen and dining area there is a balcony with stairs to the garden. Upstairs are the lounge furniture. You can also eat there and sit comfortably. That's how I would do it too. So no dining table, but a sofa with a small table :-)

Mark out in the garden and see what fits and whether there is enough passage space.

Basically, there is a reason why the bedrooms are mostly upstairs.

I sleep very badly downstairs. Maybe you should just try sleeping downstairs and upstairs. I will never sleep downstairs again. Not even on the sofa in the living room.

I currently have a terrace measuring 6 x 2.80m. But I will renovate and enlarge it to 7 x 3.50m this year. Every centimeter counts. I have a large table about 1 x 3 m and benches around it. When we have visitors, it’s already tight.

However, everything happens on our terrace. In summer, of course. Because it is located right in front of the kitchen. Incidentally, very practical. My neighbor has a terrace behind the house and runs from the kitchen down to the basement and then up a staircase to the back entrance. For every single plate! That’s how it will be for you too if the kitchen is upstairs. Everything through the house.

We will probably build it very similarly to you due to the slope, with a balcony of about the same size attached to the kitchen. My kitchen in the current apartment is exactly 3x5 m and there stands a 1.80 table with a corner bench plus kitchen unit and extra cabinet... so it should also be possible on a terrace with the right furniture. You are planning 18 sqm terrace anyway and there will be a second one as well. Just measure in the living room (if it even has more than 18 sqm at the moment ;) ) and lay out furniture dimensions with a string.

Nice topic, I also have to decide tomorrow regarding the terrace dimensions.
In the building application, 7x3.5m was specified, but I am strongly leaning towards definitely larger (deeper) after the space in the garden there was cleared of greenery.

I would make a terrace at least 4m deep, if space allows, 4.5m deep.
Because as previously mentioned, it quickly becomes tight if the chairs should not be placed directly at the edge, there is a wider table in between, and the foot traffic should not interfere with each other.
